The Story Behind it All
A little history on the founder and CEO: Elena Torres.
Estetica Super Kuts was founded and created by Elena Torres back in 2005. In efforts to survive and support her family, this courageously passionate independent woman embarked on becoming an entrepreneur of a salon.
It all began about back in 1998 when she was a struggling immigrant trying to get ahead in life just like many. She began working as a waitress and worked hard night shifts to feed her family. She was the youngest of 5 and wasn't always the one given all the support. Growing up, in such hard struggles made her a very strong emotional woman. By the age of 35 she began to see that being a waitress wasn't taking care of what she wanted and wasn't bringing home the goods. It wasn't easy but she did what she could to try to make in this world.
She says that sometimes "Me metia en el cuarto a llorar de todo el estress" She struggled with the burdens of children, work, and putting food on the table with my father. They were both immigrants that didn't have all the opportunities that us, as children have today.
Elena always fought hard to prioritize our education and make us better kids. An example had to be set, so she went and got her GED. Growing up as a kid in Mexico, she loved school but had to work to support the family. That's how it is in Mexico. Go to school up to 3rd grade, just enough to start up physical labor, and begin helping out around the house.
After graduating from MIT, and receiving a GED, she began to take on the career path of a Cosmetologist. This lady began cutting our hair as practice and began to develop a liking to it. Before you knew it, Elena began taking cosmetology classes and slowly but surely picked herself up from the not so great style she had, I might add. But like many, she had to start from somewhere.
After having taken some classes in cosmetology and receiving her license, she got a job at the Flea Market on 288 and telephone road. She began work there and dealt with many angry customers. That's just what kept her going. She wasn't going to stop until she got a customer satisfied. She started doing better, and her tips showed it.
A few years after, she began working at a Salon much more closer to home. Salon 2000. It was next to a "Discoteca" and the Dollar Store. There was no one that spoke spanish there and it was predominately African American. She wound up learning much of her english there and decided to branch out when my older brother began his own business in SEO Marketing.
Anderson and South Post Oak, there was a house that seemed perfect for remodeling and setting up a hair salon.
A few months later, Estetica Super Kuts was founded and established. It took much work and much contribution on my dad's part to get it up and running but with hard work we accomplished my mother's dream. He owns a company called Houston Construction Service.
